This proposal aims to develop new computational models and numerical algorithms for Enterprise-wide Optimization (EWO). Whereas the employment of rigorous methodologies for EWO can have a profound impact in both the profitability and the environmental footprint of industrial companies, a major challenge is the integrated and coordinated decision-making that is required across the various functions in an industrial company (purchasing, manufacturing, distribution, sales), across various geographically distributed organizations, and over various time scales (strategic, tactical and operational). The proposed PITA project brings together three companies with a research center and/or operational footprint in Pennsylvania that have joint interest in promoting the development of such EWO methodologies, and which have a track record of working with CMU researchers in this context.
